Our United States Scrapbook~ New Jersey

Welcome to New Jersey!

new-jersey

We have completed our Delaware and Pennsylvania state studies. We are now learning about the 3rd state to join statehood.

New Jersey became a state on December 18, 1787.

The state dance is the square dance. Yes, the square dance.

I know when I think of New Jersey square dancing does not come to mind.

So we did a little do-si-do.

For those of you who don't remember how to square dance. I know it had been a few years since I had done it.

Here is a wonderful site that explains it in easy terms.

Blueberries became the state fruit in 2004.

We decided to make a  lemon blueberry cake.

Yummy!

You can find the recipe here.

We made blueberry smoothies!

All I used was our blender and a few simple ingredients.

1 cup water
1 cup blueberries
a few handfuls of ice
a little bit of sugar

Blend and drink!

Here are our finished New Jersey scrapbook pages!

  2. Looks awesome! My husband is from New Jersey. I just asked him if he ever saw anyone square dancing in NJ, and, as laughing, said a most definitive "no." :-)

    1. Thank you, Chris. The kids have really enjoyed learning about the states so far. We are studying Georgia next and I have found some more information to add to our study. Hopefully the kids will enjoy it.

  5. How fun! How long do you spend on each state? I have a great state study "book" downloaded from years ago, but we've never used it. Your post has me thinking about how fun and interesting it might be to do a state study next year!

    1. We spend about 2-3 weeks on each state. If we have a lot going on during a week it takes longer. The kids have really enjoyed the state study. I keep finding things to add to the state study. We might end up studying a state for a month if I keep finding goodies.
