Traveling Thursdays

Good Morning, dear friends. I stopped blogging for a bit, but I'm trying to get back into it on a pretty regular basis. I still need to share our trip we took last fall to Utah, so I'll be getting those posts typed up over the next few weeks.

Traveling with Dogs

But first, I'll share about our trip to Waves, North Carolina, in the Outer Banks. The beach we stayed at is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Waves, North Carolina

Our house was right on the beach. We walked out the back patio door and up and over the sand dunes, and we were on the beach. It was a nice, quick walk, except in the middle of the day. The sand got so hot it burned your feet. A few of the kids (grown adults) used socks and sandals to get around, while a few ended up with blisters.

We took both dogs with us. It was their first time at the beach. Maddie, our 11-year-old black lab, loved it. Ruby, our 2-year-old red fox lab, wasn't so sure at first. She quickly changed her mind, though.

Since the sand got so hot during the middle of the day, I spent a lot of time with the dogs at the house. We stayed by the pool. I had a migraine for most of the trip, so it was easier to stay near the house too. We bought the girls a kiddie pool to cool off, since dogs were not allowed in the big pool. Maddie loved it.

I did none of the touristy stuff. I hung out by the pool with Therese and the girls. We relaxed in the sun, read a book, One Golden Summer, swam, and played fetch with the girls.

The boys went fishing and even went out on a fishing charter. They caught some Spanish Mackerel.

Overall, it was a relaxing trip. It was a little different with the dogs, but we realized it wasn't that bad, and we would definitely take them on a trip again. They did exceptionally well and enjoyed themselves.

Well, hello there! It has been quite a while, y'all. Things have been busy and a little off around here. I kept going back and forth about whether I wanted to continue blogging. I wonder if people read them anymore. We seem to be more fixed on quick, quick, quick! I think I'm going to give it a go again. It's a way for me to journal and share a few things.

So how have y'all been? I haven't posted in months. I've been enjoying the sunny days while trying to avoid the hot, sticky humidity. We've had lots of rain this summer. Normally, we are in a drought, and everything is brown and dead by July. Not this year. Some of my flowers have gotten too much rain.  I think I'm finally settling into this "retired" stage of my life. Of course, now that it's going to change again, but I'll share more about that in the future.

Let's get started with Happy Homemaker Monday with our beautiful hostess, Sandra from Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. Be sure to stop in and say hi.

The Weather in My Neck of the Woods~

Hot, hot, and hot. The humidity has been insane here. This week is no different for the first half. Right now, they are calling for cooler temps after a storm front comes in on Thursday. I will take it. I need to plant my Irises that I picked up last week. We went to the Iris farm in May and just picked up all my new colors. I'm so excited! You can check them out online! They ship to.... Exline Iris Garden. They have so many colors!

Monday~ Sunny, 90*
Tuesday~ Sunny, 90*
Wednesday ~ Cloudy, 90*
Thursday~ Cloudy/Thunderstorms, 81*
Friday~ Cloudy, 72*
Saturday~ Sunny, 72*
Sunday~ Sunny, 70*

As I Look Out My Window~

The sun is shining. The humidity is kicking. The birds are out and about. I have a pair of house wrens trying to build a nest in the chicken coop. My flowers are starting to bloom. They were a little sickly looking after our vacation to the beach. Some were waterlogged, while others were dying from lack of water.  They've been making a slow comeback. I think I might lose two.

Thinking and Pondering~

I'm sitting down this week and adjusting my Sunday school lessons. I'm changing a few things this year. I've also decided not to teach art for our church's homeschool co-op since I have a few changes coming in the next few months.

Right Now I Am ~

I am typing this post while sitting on the couch. Ruby is curled up next to me while Maddie is sitting at my feet. I already have clothes on the line.  I need to vacuum, but I'm waiting till later.

How I'm  Feeling~
I'm feeling pretty good. My allergies have been crazy this summer. I hardly ever have allergies in the summer, but with all this rain, they are horrible. I had to switch allergy meds because the one I'd been on stopped working.

What's on My Nightstand~

My Bible and the Catholic Mom's Prayer Companion: A Book of Daily Reflections

What's for Breakfast~

A cup of coffee with collagen and milk. I also had a protein bar.

Looking Around the House~

I need to pick up a few areas. I started organizing the pantry last week, so I need to do the rest of the kitchen cabinets. I need to vacuum, but that's an every-other-day thing here. With 3 cats and 2 dogs, their hair is crazy!

On My To-Do List This Week~

Tuesday~ Hair Appointment

I plan on deep cleaning each room starting on Wednesday, so it's a cleaning week (or two).

Happening This Week~

My plan is to start deep cleaning, and then when it's cooler later on in the week, I'm going to get out and work in my flower garden. My hubby and son created a new flower garden for me along the chicken run. It was my Mother's Day present and I love it.

On My Reading Pile~

I just finished A Week to Remember by Ruth O'Leary. I absolutely enjoyed this story about 3 Irish women on a journey of a lifetime! They are walking the Camino and discovering more about themselves.

I think I'm going to start the Summer of '69 by Elin Hilderbrand next.

While on vacation at the beach, I read One Golden Summer by Carley Fortune. It was the perfect summer romance to read at the beach (or at a lake).

On TV this week~

Netflix
Sullivan's Crossing
Call the Midwives
The Hunting Wives (not what I was expecting)
Blindspot

Amazon Prime
Reacher

YouTube
Cooking Videos
Quilting Videos
Exercise videos

Disney+
Lilo and Stitch

On the Menu this Week~

Monday~ Leftovers
Tuesday~ Tacos
Wednesday~ Spaghetti and Meatballs
Thursday~??
Friday~??
Saturday~??

I need to take inventory of what we have and sit down and meal plan for the next 2 weeks. I used to be so good at this, but I have really slacked off over the past year.

What I am Sewing, Quilting, and Creating~

I'm still working on my quilt blocks. I have found a few fall things to make. I want to sit down and sew a few skirts over the next few weeks, too.

My Simple Pleasures~

Sitting outside in the early morning hours before the heat becomes too unbearable. I love the calm and quiet. It's just so peaceful.

Lesson Learned This Week~

Sometimes the best intentions are not enough. You can give and give, but some people will never appreciate what has been done. There are people in this world who will just take and take. They'll use you and never look back. It's a hard lesson to learn, but one we all will learn in our lifetime.

Inspirational Quote/Bible Verse/Faith~

"Life is strange.

You arrive with nothing, spend your whole life chasing everything, and still leave with nothing.

Make sure your soul gains more than your hands."
