Homeschooling Journey

August is here already! Summer has flown by. We've had a much cooler summer here than past years. We've hardly been in the pool. School is just around the corner! It's funny as the kids get older, the years seem to fly by even faster.

Outside My Window~
A cool summer day filled with soft rain showers. Right now I can hear the rain softly hit the vibrant green leaves of our trees. Birds are sweetly tweeting and of course Colonel Drumstick, our Rooster, is announcing to the world it's morning time! I am being lovingly taken care of my our sweet lab. She loves to sit next to me when I dink my morning coffee. She has only 3 thoughts that cross her mind...LOVE everyone, tennis balls, and food!

What I'm Working On in Our Homeschooling World~
I have been getting the school room back in order for the start of school. Lesson plans are almost completed. All I have left is history! I'm really loving the Homeschool Planet online planner this year. I haven't touched my paper planner too much. I may have found my new favorite planner! I still have a few more books and science supplies to order, so we are almost ready to go. Well, at least I am! I always get excited about the start of a new school year.

What I am Working On~
I'm organizing my sewing area and looking through old pictures to get back to scrapbooking. My goal this year is to get the kids scrapbooks all caught up. I'm only 7 years behind, but whose counting. We've picked out paint for Therese's room and the kitchen, so painting will be in our near future.

What I'm Thankful~
my family
lazy days of summer
our new parish
my hardworking kids
my hubby who works hard so I can stay home
beautiful flowers filling the garden with bright colors
the mercy and forgiveness of God

What I'm Reading~
Gardening with Chickens and gardening books. I want to turn the backyard into a beautiful flower garden. I'm thinking french country garden. It just needs to be chicken friendly.

What's Coming Up in the Next Few Weeks~
Nothing planned, except enjoying the last few days if summer break. We do have our county's fair coming up, so we'll probably head there for a few days.

Till Next Time,
Monique

Hello There~ Daybook Post #1

Please Note~ This post may contain affiliate links. If you choose to click on a link, add it to your cart and complete your purchase, I will receive a small percentage. We are very grateful for this additional source of income. Thank you.

It's been a looooong time since I posted a Daybook post. I actually can't even remember when I did one last. After a few busy months, I realized I need time to slow done and just take a moment to reflect and appreciate all that God has given me. So my goal is to post a daybook post every Monday, of course we'll see if I can make it happen.

Outside my Window~
Clouds and more clouds. We have been having an exceptionally cool spring with lots of rain. We have had a few sunny days..thank goodness. Just when you can't take any more rain and dreariness, the sun comes out and shines for just a little bit. Yesterday was beautiful, but today it is gray and gloomy. At least the rain will be good for the garden.

What I'm Working On~
Cleaning out the house again. They kids ave finally agreed to part with some outgrown toys. We are donated all the goodies to our church's yard sale that will benefit our new rectory. Our rectory was completed last month and it now has to be furnished, since we just received the announcement that we will be a parish in July. We will have our own priest! It has been a long time coming.

What I'm Thankful For~
my family
our new priest
finally becoming a parish
our garden
my beautiful flowers
good friends to have a cup of tea with
my amazing kids

What I Am Reading~
The Good Earth by Pearl

I actually just finished this book. This was a pick for our homeschool groups book club for moms. I can't attend the meeting this month, but I still read the book. I'll admit I read it years ago in high school or college (can't remember which one). I remembered the main idea of the book but sadly didn't remember much else of the story. I'm glad I reread it. I think I got a lot more out of it this time around. It did get me thinking though. It today's world we have women fighting for certain rights (free birth control, abortion rights, etc) that have no real meaning. Reading this book made me realize that so many women today still face real discrimination or inequality like O-lan, Lotus, Pearl Blossom, or any of the female character in this book. It's sad to think we still have women in this world that do not have a say in their life and how they will live. Forced marriages, aborted because they are female, female genital mutilation, marriages where men can beat there wives and children, children being sold into the sex trade. The list goes on and on.  It's scary that we still have situations like these. It sad that here in the United States, women are fighting for free birth control, when other women around the world are fighting for their lives. What does it say about us as a society? Where are our values at? What has happened to our morals? I pray to our Blessed Mother that one day these things will change.

From Our Schoolroom~
We are done! Well actually, we are done most of our subjects. The kids will work through the summer on math. We also have a few products we are reviewing that we will work on during the summer too. One I'm really excited about is a study about the Wonders of the World! Stay tuned I can't

Daybook Post~ Fourth Week of Avent

Outside my window~

Bare trees and downed limbs from the wind, but the temperature s a little warmer here right now. Last week it was in the single digits. This week it's a hot 36 degrees. It's sad when 36 degrees feels warm.

With the cold temperatures, I know have a little yellow chicken wearing a coat. This past fall she didn't get all of her feathers back, so she had a few bare spots. I couldn't let here freeze! What could I do? Make her a coat. She wasn't happy about it at first but now she doesn't mind at all. I'm happy she will be warm this winter.

What I am thankful for~

~our wood burning stove
~a warm house
~ a cup of hot tea
~heavy blankets to curl up with
~ a hubby that pulls the blanket up around me when he gets out of bed
~ twinkling Christmas lights

What I've been reading~

Nothing! We have been to busy with getting ready for Christmas....decorating, baking cookies, making new ornaments, wrapping gifts, and sending out Christmas cards.

Our homeschool~

Last week Therese and Michael work sick on different days,so school was a little different. Whenever was feeling well did the basics, while the sick one rested. We started Christmas break this week. All subjects are done for now. The only subject you can say we are still doing is religion, but religion is just not a subject you learn. Our faith is something we live everyday.

My work is not yet done. I've been working ahead and getting the next semesters lessons lined up. When our Christmas break ends, we will be ready to get down to business!

What we are listening to~

Advent and Christmas music of course. I just love this time of year.

What I am praying for~

~ our country as a new president takes over
~ for people to respect human life and each other
~ my great aunt
~ the repose soul of my great uncle who passed away (He was 102!)
~ my family
~ our priests
~ safe travels for everyone I know who is traveling this Christmas season
