Adventures of the Traveling Wisemen

Sadly, now that the kids are older, some Christmas traditions have come to an end. One tradition that I'm sad to see go is the finding of the Traveling Wisemen. We no longer put out our Nativity scene from Play Mobil and we no longer hid the Three Wisemen and Beth the Camel. Even though, we no longer take part in this wonderful Advent tradition, I thought I'd share with a few links to our past adventures.

Traveling Wisemen Adventures

Once again this year, our family will be following the adventures of the Traveling Wisemen! For the past 3 years, the kids have searched and searched every morning for these wandering little men. Some days they are easy to find, while other days they are rather hard to spot. The kids have even found them playing games or stuck in a tricky spot hanging on by just a thin thread. No matter where they are, we always know that they won't stop until they find the Baby Jesus on the Epiphany. 

If you're not familiar with the Traveling Wise Men, let me explain it a little for you. 

First, I started doing this after I saw the idea as an alternative to Elf on the Shelf. As Catholics, Advent and Christmas is supposed to be focused on Jesus.....not Santa. I loved the idea of bringing more attention to the real meaning of Christmas.You know the old saying "Jesus is the reason for the season!"

So during Advent and Christmas all the way through until the Epiphany, I (with help from dad sometimes) hide the three wise men around the house. Balthazar, Melchior, Caspar, and Beth the Camel ( my kids named her) have been known to hang off of the ceiling fan, play a quick games of scrabble, get tangled in garland, or stop by the kitchen for a bite to eat.

Their travels take them far and near.

We use the Playmobil Three Wisemen set and the Playmobil Nativity.

              

Our set is a little different since we've had ours a few years now. It looks like they updated the outfits the wisemen wear. The sets are sold separately and do contain small pieces. They may not be suitable for younger children. I love how the Playmobil wisemen are pose-able. It makes hiding the a little easier. You can have them doing things. You can pose them like they are in action! These are courageous and adventurous men!
If you have younger kids, you could easily use the Fisher Price Nativity set.

The Traveling Wisemen~ Days 1-4

Well, the journey has begun!

The kids wake up every morning and immediately try to find the Three Wisemen and Beth.

So where have they been?

What have they gotten themselves into?

Day 1

This day is always easy. 

I try to set the Three Wisemen and Beth the camel in the Advent wreath. 

This lets the kids know that the adventure has begun.

Day 2

Today, the Three Wisemen and Beth found themselves tangled up in some wild flowers.

Maybe they stopped for the night and decided to sleep here in the soft petals.

Beth was hanging out by the water so maybe she was storing up some water for their journey.

Day 3

They found themselves in the schoolroom on the book shelves.

Maybe they were trying to find a map to help them on their journey.

This was a a little challenging since we have too many books.

Can you have too many books?

I don't think so.

Day 4

Here they are gazing out at the sky.

Maybe they are searching for the star?

Happy Feast of the Epiphany.....The Wisemen Have Found Baby Jesus!

Yes, I know I'm a little late but we have been enjoying our break! It's so hard to get motivated when you are enjoying your kids and relaxing just a little.

So the three Wisemen finally reached the nativity!

The Continuing Adventures of the Traveling Wisemen

We continued the adventures of the Wisemen during my blogging break.

Traveling Wise Men ~ Day 13, Day 14, Day 15, Day 16, Day 17

Day 13 
We found the Three Wise Men and Beth sitting on top of the ceiling fans blades.
Sorry I couldn't find the camera that day. Surprisingly the kids found them right away. I really thought it was a tricky spot, but I was wrong.

Days 14, 15, 16
Well the Three Wise Men got a little hung up for a few days.

It seemed like no one was going to find them. So for days 14, 15, and 16 they were stuck in garland hanging around the grandfather clock. Poor guys. 

Thankfully they were found and can return to their journey.

Day 17
Mama forgot to move them. Of course, this didn't stop Lego Man from tricking his sister into searching for them. He knew they hadn't been moved and "completely" forgot to let her in on that bit of information.
