Happy New Year, friends! Another year has come and gone. They seem to be going by much faster now that I'm in my fifties. Maybe it's seeing the kids all grown up and my parents silently aging. I'm learning to cherish each and every year. I'm thankful that all of my family and friends made it through the year. We all got to make another pass around the sun. Every day we are gifted here on earth is such a blessing from God.

2025 was not an easy year for our family. We experienced some difficult times, some happy times, and lots of uncertainty. I definitely leaned on the bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

No matter how crazy, bleak, or scary life seemed, I always knew God was there. Don't get me wrong, I definitely questioned his path a few times, okay I questioned it a lot. I struggled with understanding it. I just couldn't figure out the why. I wondered what the purpose of all this struggling was for. A mama hates to see her children suffer and struggle. It's hard not being able to rush in and fix it all up. I'm praying 2026 is a more relaxing year filled with lots of happiness.

So, every year, I pick a word for the year, as well as a saint for the year. I use the saint generator and word generator created by Jennifer Fulwiler.

Today, I'm sharing my word of the year. It's a simple word when you first see it.

2026 word of the year

Hello~ used as a greeting or to start a conversation

Just a little bit of history~

Hello, was first recorded in the 1800s. It was originally used to attract attention or express surprise.

Example~ "Well, hello! What do we have there?"

The common hello that we are so accustomed to became popular with a well know invention. Can you guess what that invention was? We still use it today!

The telephone! Thomas Edison was the first person to coin the saying when answering the phone.

I have to admit when the word first popped up, I was a little confused. Hello, what kind of word is that. It's so simple. How can that be my word for the year? So, I decided to dig a little deeper into the word.

After praying about my word Hello, I realized that I need to embrace all the new things coming my way this year!

New connections
New journeys
New events
New adventures
New roles
New responsibilities

Basically, anything new that God sends my way. After last year, I think me getting this word is God having some fun with me. At least, I hope!

I think God is reminding me to approach life with the eager ness of a child. I need to be open to life. I need to live life to my fullness. I need to get out and engage with others and the world around me. Grab the bulls by the horns, as they say.

I need to step out of my comfort zone and find some new goals. So, my plan for right now is to find some new outlets. Explore the world around me. Get out at least once during the week. Explore new park. Just get out and see what is around me.
