I'm a huge fan of decorating for the holidays. I have decorations for almost all the holidays: Fall, Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, Easter, Fourth of July, Summer, etc. I love changing out decorations for the different seasons. It brings new life to the house and just freshens it all up. It is new and different and the house never seems boring! When the kids were younger they would get so excited to put out the different decorations. It made for so many wonderful memories with them. Now since they are older, it's mostly Therese that helps me. Michael will help with the outdoor decorations, but only if I need it.

When decorating for the Fall, I like to focus more on Fall rather than Halloween. Nothing against Halloween, we celebrate it and have no issues with the holiday.  I just feel I get more out of decorating for Fall. I do add a few Halloween items around the house and I just pull them once the day has passed.

I love using a variety of decorations. I love creating things too. I make all the wreaths that decorate my home, inside and out. I use ribbon, mesh, flowers, etc. My favorite place to shop for these items is Hobby Lobby, JoAnns, or Walmart. I do find a few things at the dollar store every now and then.

I add warm inviting scents to fill my home with candles, diffusers, and wax warmers.

Little homemade touches add the perfect homey feel. I love looking around and seeing items I've made or items that have been passed down from my mom, grandparents, or father-in-law. Tradition, family, and memories mean so much. When I look at certain items, I smile and a cherished memory often pops up in my head. Even if I look at a picture or blanket and feel sad because I am missing them, I know they are still there and I love having something that was part of them. All that they have taught me and shared with me, lives on in me and will in turn be passed down to my children. It is amazing how much our loved ones influence us.

This sweet little scarecrow bear is one of my favorites! Growing up I loved bears and collected all kinds of teddy bears. I have since paired down my collection. Having kids will have you do that. I think I got him at Walmart, but I honestly can't remember.

"Give thanks to the Lord
He is good
His love endures forever."
Psalms 107:1

My pumpkin scarecrow couple is from a huge craft show that is held in Maryland every year. I bought these two years ago from an elderly couple. They sit next to their pumpkin on the wood stove at least until the wood stove has to be started which is usually in mid-November. After that, they get to hang out on my cedar chest that was made by my grandfather for his mother. You can find a similar pumpkin set here.

Signs, candles, and little knick-knacks are perfect for adding just a little bit of fall to every room. With these small additions, every room can have a hint of the season. You can tuck them in here and there.
I love these little scarecrows I found at Hobby Lobby this year.
