With two teens finishing up high school soon and heading off to college, we were very interested in checking out Who is This Kid? Colleges Want to Know! from Critical Thinking Co.™

The Critical Thinking Co.™ is a company that has been around for over 50 years. The company was founded by John Baker in 1958 as a math and textbook company. The company is still a family owned business that is currently run by John's son, Michael. The mission of the company is to help develop a student's critical thinking skills for better grades, higher test scores, and success in life. They help empower the student's mind.

The Critical Thinking Co.™ offers over 600 titles in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Families can find just about everything to help them along their homeschooling journey. Families that don't homeschool can find things to use with their kids too. Every parent wants their children to succeed in life. The books offered from this amazing company can help with that.

For this review, we received a link to download a copy of the Who is This Kid? Colleges Want to Know! eBook. The book can also be purchased in paper back form for $13.99. The eBook is 157 pages long. Due to the nature of the book it's geared to high school students planning on going to college. The book uses various writing exercises to create amazing applications for colleges.
The writing exercises will help students discover who they are and what type of student they are.

The book is broken up into 5 sections!

Part 1~ Student Self- Assessment

In this section, students are given writing exercises to help them discover who they are as a person and what type of student they are. They start this process by writing down 5 adjectives that describe them according to their mom, dad, sister, brother, friend, and self. Then they will write about 3 important events that have occurred during their life. They'll write about why these events were so important to them. They'll follow this up with making a list of their favorite things....bands, musicians, music, movies, television shows, books, video games (I'd cross this out and add a different topic for student that don't have one), three favorite memories, three people that have influenced them, favorite quotes, and favorite words. Students will then write about their student interests and write about their extracurricular activities they have done in and outside of school.

After completing the self-assessment section, students will wok on the Campus Life and College Culture section. They'll take a short quiz about what type of college or university would be best for them.

Part 2~ Searching the Colleges- Building Your College List

This section provides students with worksheets to help them with their college search. Students will fill in the pages as they search and discover colleges they are interested in.
This section also provides students with pages for college fairs, for college preparation, and for visits to the actual colleges.
Once these pages are completed, students will then create a list of their top 10 college choices.

Part 3~ Communications

There are three section in this part: Applications, College Essays, and College Interviews.
This section helps students organize and keep up with everything going on, college deadlines, essays, and interviews. This section also provides students with 5 essay writing exercises and a list of questions that might be asked during their college interview.

Part 4~ College Admission Calendar

This section has two sections. One is for the student's junior year and another section for their senior year. These calendars will help students stay on top of everything. It can get very hectic during their junior and senior years of high school. This section is a wonderful resource for them.

Part 5~ Glossary

This final section just provides students with words and terms they will hear during this entire process. Since some of these terms may be new or unfamiliar, this is a great resource students.

Who is This Kid? Colleges want to Know! will help students learn about themselves, learn ho to search for the college of their dreams, write an outstanding college essay, what to look for while taking the college tours, and what to expect as they interview with their selected colleges. The writing exercises provided in this book will help students stand-out from the crowd and make an impression on the admission's office at the colleges or universities they are applying too.

I was excited to see what this book had to offer for both Michael and Therese. After looking over it, I realized it wasn't a great fit for us. Therese already has her college plan decided. She'll start her college classes for a nursing degree at the local community college her senior year. She can earn her Bachelor's degree there and then head to a university to earn her Master's Degree. Michael is also planning on completing his first two years of college at the local community college and then transferring to a four year. For them a lot of the unknown is already decided.

If your student is undecided or currently doesn't have any ideas, I would highly recommend this book for students still figuring out their college path!
