Good Morning and welcome back to first grade! This week continued our talk about creation and how God made us all in His image. But before we jump into this week's lesson, let's find out who are saint if the week is and what our virtue is!

This week our saint was Saint Elizabeth of Hungary.

St. Elizabeth was a princess that loved to help those that were less fortunate. She would take money, food, clothing, medicine, etc. from the castle and head into town to help those that needed it. Sadly, her husband's family didn't like this very much. Saint Elizabeth wouldn't give up and continued with her thoughtfulness. She wanted to be able to meet God and say she did everything she could to help those less fortunate. The children colored in a picture of Saint Elizabeth to take home.

Our virtue to go along with Saint Elizabeth was Stewardship. Stewardship is using our God given abilities and talents to help those for the good. St. Elizabeth was a perfect example of this. She was blessed to marry well and have plenty of resources to help those that needed help. She even built a hospital for those that were sick. This would have taken strength and courage to do this at a time when women didn't work!

After we talked about this weeks saint and virtue. We reviewed all the previous weeks saints and virtues. I was stunned and amazed by all that the children remembered! The have been so eager  to learn. Every child was able to provide an answer. I love seeing little ones soak in all they can about their faith.

After our saint and virtue, the students who still needed to finish up their craft from last worked on that.

We had a few children who were absent the previous week, so they were able to make their own craft. This was a fun craft for the kids to make and it was fairly simple to make too.

Since God made us in His image, we chose be respectful of all that God has given us. We talked about how we should take care of ourselves.

  • eat healthy
  • get enough sleep
  • exercise
  • brush our teeth
  • bath regularly
  • pray daily
  • avoid doing bad things
  • ask God for help
  • go to church
These are just a few of the things the kids said we should do to stay healthy and happy.

The children colored in a worksheet about creation and had to find hidden letters to complete the sentence at the bottom. They quickly found the word GOOD.

We worked on our prayers. We have two children who almost have all their prayers checked off! They are very excited about this of course. I'll need to get their prize bags ready to go.

We worked on filling up our Goods Deeds jar. Each child shared one good deed they had done during the week. We are busy filling that jar up!

With so many children ready to share ideas our time goes by too fast. Before we knew it class had come to an end.

Stay tuned for next week's class when we learn about Baby Moses!

Till Next Time,
Monique
