While learning about Massachusetts, we saw pictures of the bronze statues inspired by the famous story Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey.

We had read the story a few years ago when the kids were younger, so we pulled the classic children's story of the shelf and reread it.
After finishing the story, I pulled out our oil pastels and began our art lesson about the use of pastels. I really wanted to encourage them to blend the colors to create a impressionistic feel. Children are so use to crayons and we all know that they do not blend.
We looked through a few books to see how to sketch a duck. We found directions on how to draw a real duck and a cartoon duck.

I love how you taught them to blend the colors in the Impressionist way :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever read that book! We also have not done pastels for our drawing. Two things to put on my list to do! Thanks for sharing!
