During the past few months we have been on some wonderful field trips with our homeschool group. We were lucky enough to take a wonderful day trip to Shenandoah Caverns.
Shenandoah Caverns has been around since 1922! The caverns were discovered by two boys years ago. They found the whole and went in and explored all on there own. I can only imagine how their mother felt when she found out what they had done.
Our group received a tour through the one mile path of crushed stones. There are 17 rooms to explore. We were shown crystalline formations and numerous natural wonders. The kids were thrilled with all the rock formations they were shown.
The famous Bacon formations
The kids though some of the formations looked like big mounds of sugar. They enjoyed the light show as the crystals changed colored according to the colored lights our tour guide turned on.
Shenandoah Caverns is a wonderful play to visit. It's great for families with young ones with strollers, since they can take the elevator down to the caverns.
