Traveling Thursdays~ A Visit to Main Street

During our field trip to Shenandoah Caverns, our group had the chance to tour the Main Street of Yesteryear display. The Main Street of Yesteryear is a wonderful collection of antique window displays from department stores from the 1940's and 1950's. A time when people strolled the down main street greeting neighbors and sharing in the fun of shopping.

As we strolled through the displays, we were treated to charming stories.
We saw scenes from Cinderella's Ball and her magical carriage ride. We entered the big top and witnessed a fun filled circus.

The displays reminded me when I lived in New York and strolled along the streets at Christmas time looking at the amazing displays created by the department stores.

As we move further from cities and live in more rural areas, we lose a part of our history. While walking through the window display. I realized that my kids have never looked at store front windiness with awe and wonder. Windowing shopping online just doesn't have the same appeal as window shopping down main street.

Wouldn't it be nice to get back to the simpler days again?
